Note : Kern Medical may decide to both evacuate parts of the facility and also shelter-in-place in another part of the facility. Part B: Decision to Shelter-in-Place 1. Kern Medical’s Incident Command will make an assessment whether the hospital faces an internal or external hazard or both. 2. If the decision is made to shelter-in-place due to an internal and/or external environmental hazard, the Kern Medical Incident Command will notify local authorities by calling 911 (dispatch), if appropriate, and will make an assessment for the need to initiate environmental engineering interventions. The primary decisions are: a. The decisions on how to protect patients, staff and visitors by movement to a more secure area will be made by the Kern Medical Incident Command in collaboration with the response agency Incident Commander or Unified Command, as appropriate. b. The decisions on how to protect the building will be made by the Kern Medical Incident Command, based on the known hazards and their effects on the building and its inhabitants in collaboration with the response agency Incident Commander or Unified Command, as appropriate.

3. Kern Medical will initiate a process to secure the building (lockdown).
