Hand Washing
Hand washing is the most effective action you can take to protect our patients and yourself against infection.
• Hands visibly soiled? Wash with soap and water. o Wash hands for at least 15-20 seconds. • Hands not visibly soiled? You may use an alcohol-based rub (hand sanitizer). o Rub hands with hand sanitizer until they are dry.
• While working at Kern Medical, use only hospital approved hand sanitizers and lotions.
o Leave personal sanitizers and lotions in your car or at home.
• After using the bathroom, you MUST use soap and water.
No hand sanitizer.
o
• Always try to keep your skin intact.
o Keep your skin moisturized and cover any cuts or open wounds.
• Hands are cleaned:
o Before entering any patient room
o Before donning any personal protective equipment
Before eating
o
After exiting any patient room
o
o After removing any personal protective equipment
After using the bathroom
