Clostridiodes Difficile (C. Diff)

C. Diff is shed in feces and transmitted by touching surfaces, devices, or materials that are contaminated.

Prevention

Follow contact precautions.

• Wash your hands with soap and water only.

Soap and Water Hand Hygiene Only!

o Hand sanitizer is not effective at killing C. diff. spores.

• Perform environmental cleaning with appropriate disinfectants.

DO NOT USE HAND SANITIZER

Sani Cloth Bleach Wipes.

Capable of surviving on surfaces for as long as 5 months.

Passes from person to person by contact with contaminated hands.

Both

• Spread from poor hand hygiene.

• Spread from poor environmental and equipment cleaning.

• Difficult to contain once an outbreak occurs.

Can lead to death.

Prevention

• Clean equipment between patient uses.

Keep environment clean.

• Adhere to contact time for all hospital-approved disinfectants.

• Follow isolation and Standard precautions

• Perform hand hygiene as required.
