Emergency Medicine Emergency Medicine has added Dr. Karina Sanchez as faculty. Dr. Sanchez graduated from Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center EM Residency Program in April 2020. Dr. Karina Sanchez serves as Speaker of the Council for
EMRA (Emergency Medicine Residents’ Association). EMRA is the largest and oldest independent resident organization in the world and its mission is to be the voice of emergency medicine physicians-in-training and the future of our specialty.
OB Residents & Faculty enjoying some much needed yoga relaxation in Santa Barbara for their annual retreat.
OB/GYN The OB/GYN department has been working with Dr. Sage Wexner, Director of Medical Simulation, to enchance their FLS skills. Our residents are excited for this training, as it helps with their board examinations. In addition to training and development activities, our department has directed a lot of its focus on the wellness of our residents. Our department held its annual retreat, focusing on teamwork and creating a work/ life balance. We are excited for this upcoming academic year and are looking forward to more activities.
Pharmacy Dr. Isabel Fong, PharmD, BCIDP, AAHIVP, has been added to the clinical infectious disease team, where she will serve as a pharmacist for the Valley Fever Institute. She will be leading our antimicrobial stewardship activities and has been an
integral part of the hospital’s COVID-19 taskforce. Both our residents’ research projects are being featured on the California Society of Health-System Pharmacists’ webinar, available here: https://www. cshp.org/page/CSHP_GESHP_Webinar6-16-2020 The Pharmacy’s 2019 publication, Meds-to-Beds: The impact of a bedside medication delivery program on 30-day readmissions (Lash DB, Joson JL, Jolliff, JC, et al., J Am Coll Clin Pharm 2019;1-7. https://doi.org/10.1002/ jac5.1108 ) was among the top 10% most downloaded papers.
Psychiatry The department has also made some exciting staffing changes this year. Please join us in congratulating Dr. Sara Abdijadid for her new role as ProgramDirector for the Psychiatry Residency Program. We are excited to welcome two new faculty members to
the Psychiatry Department, Dr. Timothy Kiong and Dr. Sarayu Vasan. Both started their positions with Kern Medical earlier this summer and will be working at the Behavioral Health Unit and C&L.
