Transporting Patients

• PPE is not worn by transporters for any patient transport • Eliminate cross-contamination • Transporting patients on Airborne or Droplet Precautions • Patient wears a surgical mask • Transporting patients on Contact Precautions • Open wounds covered, clean gown and clean sheet • Clean touch surfaces of transport vehicle with hospital-approved disinfectant • Ensure receiving department is aware of isolation precautions • Exception: Unstable patient requiring 2-person transport. Staff providing care during transport will wear PPE. Staff pushing transport vehicle will not.

Why is it important? • Prevent transmission of infectious agents in healthcare settings • Keep the isolate at the original site • no harm to patients • Healthcare-associated infections • no $ for hospital • Poor patient outcomes and extended LOS • You will take it home • No harm to self and loved ones…you are being watched
