Nurse driven protocol to decrease CAUTI is an effective method to reduce incidence and duration of indwelling urinary catheters. Data was compared from 2016, 2017, and first and second quarter of 2018. Incidence was decreased from 4th quarter 2017 to none in the 1st quarter 2018 and total of 3 in ICU/DOU in 4th quarter. Recommended continuing the nurse driven protocol in the ICU/DOU and Medsurg areas, and to do a root cause analysis of all cases to determine why the incidence continues. Introduction of the PurWick and external devices and use of bladder scanners to evaluate need for straight caths. Recommended the audits continue and become part of the handoff communication.
