Nurse Residency Program This formal, structured post-nursing school new graduate program is part of the Vizient/ American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) Nurse Residency Program™. Aligned with the nation’s top residency curriculum (Vizient/AACN) our new graduate residents have the opportunity for training and education in critical thinking to lead at Kern Medical. Nurse residents participate in an evidence-based program focused on three core areas: leadership, patient outcomes, and professionalism. Benefits of this program for new graduate nurse residents include: competence and confidence in decision making, access to a learning network, satisfaction and professional commitment, consistent use of evidence based practices, leadership and critical thinking skills, relationship building, efficiency and safety on the floor, and quality of care. Cohort Start Dates 2022 Cohort #14 March 8, 2023 Program Overview: • Extensive one-year program for new graduate nurses only • Monthly seminars • Assigned to preceptors and department facilitator who will guide the hands-on clinical experience Program Objectives: • Prepare nursing graduates to care for patients with the increasing levels of acuity and complexity currently found in the hospital setting • Facilitate the development of effective decision making skills related to clinical judgment and performance • Development of clinical nursing leadership at point of care. • Strengthen commitment to nursing as a professional career choice and develop individual career goals • Bring evidence based practice to the bedside • Facilitate the development of clinical and leadership skills necessary for the advanced beginner nurse to be a successful member of the health-care team • Improve patient safety and quality of care Requirements: • All New Grad Nurses graduated from an ADN or BSN from an accredited by National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or Commission on Collegiate Nursing education (CCNE) • Must have completed the NCLEX application or have IP/RN • Commit to the one-year Residency Program • Participate in department specific group evidence based practice project • Must be first paid position as RN For more information contact Lindsey Muir, RN – Nurse Residency Program Coordinator at 661-326-2361.
