Kern Medical New Hire Guide 2024

Safe Practices Although accidents happen, we can help minimize the opportunity for blood and body fluid exposures by: • Following safe syringe practices. • Following sharps disposal practices. Never use a sharps container that is greater than ¾ full. • Always use the proper PPE, depending on what you are doing for the patient. • Being aware of your surroundings and potential exposures. • Slowing down and not rushing. Always work at the speed of safety. Exposure Reporting

If you are exposed to blood and body fluid or other potentially infectious diseases, you must report the incident to your supervisor immediately! • If your supervisor is not available, or it is after hours, the weekend, or a holiday, report it immediately to the house supervisor. • DO NOT wait until the end of your shift to report exposures. • Exposure reporting is non-punitive. • You will not face any disciplinary actions.
