Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Key Points

For all types of PPE, always perform hand hygiene after removal. If you are using a respirator, perform hand hygiene before and after removal. Put on PPE in the following order: 1. Gown 2. Mask or respirator 3. Goggles 4. Gloves Always put on PPE securely before entering a patient’s room.

Take off PPE in the following order: 1. Gloves 2. Goggles 3. Gown 4. Mask/Respirator (N95) Remove gloves, gown, goggles and simple mask before leaving the room. Remove respirators outside of the room.
