Standard Precautions – Used on Every Patient • AKA “Universal Precautions” • Assumes that all blood & body fluids are infectious

• Use the right PPE depending on type of interaction with patient Transmission Based Precautions – “contact, droplet or airborne” • AKA “Isolation Precautions”

• Based on known or suspected infectious organism • These are used in addition to standard precautions
